A LAT_56 8-wheel spinner is one of the first bags to make it onto the new Finnair Airbus A350 XWB. Under the careful stewardship of Tom Otley, Editor-in-Chief of Business Traveller Magazine, the RW_02 Road Warrior carry-on suitcase flew aboard the first ever delivery flight from the Airbus factory in Toulouse to Helsinki Airport for FinnAir, Europe’s first A350 XWB operator.
This delivery flight from the manufacturer, Airbus, to Finnair gives respected members of the press the opportunity to experience the new, premium features of the wide bodied plane to share with the rest of the world. Airbus’ newest jet airliner promises passengers increased comfort with greater headroom, seat width and in-flight comfort, a direct rival to Boeing’s 787 ‘Dreamliner’.
The A350 is comprised of fuselage and wing structures made primarily of carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer, making for a lightweight build and is the first of its kind for Airbus. At the same time, with wider internal cabin dimensions to that of a Boeing 787, the A350 provides greater seating capacity and that extra bit of room passengers will appreciate.
The new airbus also features increased overhead bin capacity, allowing suitcases to be stacked on their sides thus increasing the number of cabin bags that can fit overhead. Traditional bins require suitcases to lie flat on their backs, while this new design will allow many more bags to be safely stored aboard. Indeed, Tom Otley’s 8-wheel spinner fits snuggly in the new overhead luggage compartment, leaving a surprising amount of room for other travel bags.
In addition to these highlights, the new fuel efficient Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine and aerodynamic design will mean a 25% reduction in emissions, as well as lower maintenance costs. So far, Airbus has received over 780 orders from customers worldwide and is already one of the most successful wide-bodied aircrafts to date.
Business Traveller Magazine’s Tom Otley is carrying out a road test of the new RW_02 Road Warrior 8 Wheel Carry-On Bag on this delivery flight, which you can read here. This comes after his recent review of the sister bag, the RW_01 Road Warrior 2 wheel Carry-On Bag. You can also read his review of the actual aircraft and flight experience on the delivery flight here.
